With a Scoville value of 100,000 to 350,000, this spicy chili pepper is one of the hottest peppers in the world. There are two well-known large pepper families in the world, the Capsicum Annuum and the Capsicum Chinense. The Capsicum Chinense originates from Mexico, Suriname and the Caribbean Islands and is naturally much hotter. The best-known chilli pepper from this family is the Habanero pepper, but also the Madame Jeanet, Trinidad Scorpion and the hottest chili pepper in the world, the Carolina Reaper.
The Habanero pepper has a length of 5 to 7 cm, a diameter of 3 to 8 cm and an average fruit weight of between 12 and 18 grams.
